The seafront and totally renovated AKS Porto Heli hotel is currently serving as a production home for the sequel to Rian Johnson’s Academy Award-nominated comedy-mystery “Knives Out”, starring English actor Daniel Craig.

According to sources, the follow-up to Johnson’s popular movie starts filming end of June in Greece and specifically in the Argosaronic area and in the locations of Porto Heli and the island of Spetses.

With regard to the selection of Porto Heli as a filming location for the movie, sources say that apart from the impressive landscape, the destination’s exceptional hotel infrastructure and state-of-the-art conference center played a decisive role.

The newly refurbished AKS Porto Heli hotel is said to have been selected to house some 200 crew members (out of a total 400), including directors and producers, while the state-of-the-art conference center has been transformed into the production’s headquarters, hosting most of its departments (locations, editing, wardrobe, make up, etc).

The fact that the production of the “Knives Out” sequel has selected the AKS Porto Heli as the venue to accommodate its production team and headquarters shows the potential and capability of the hotel in the field of MICE events.

One of the most complete conference centers in the Peloponnese and one of the best in Greece, the Porto Heli Conference Centre of AKS Hotels is equipped with cutting edge technology and facilities that include 1,200 square meters of exhibition space, two halls for 800 and 200 people respectively, multiple smaller rooms and a business centre.

The sequel to “Knives Out” is one of the many international projects that have headed to Greece to shoot as a result of the country’s cash rebate incentive for film and TV productions. The competitive incentive, launched by the National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication (EKOME), is in the form of a tax rebate on eligible expenses incurred in Greece for film productions, which can amount up to 40 percent.

Local sources underline the benefits the film will bring to both Spetses and Porto Heli once the film is shown through the Netflix platform worldwide, as the world will get a taste of the destination’s tourism offerings as well as their potential as film locations.

The local production company to the film is Faliro House of Christos V. Konstantakopoulos.

The film’s production in Greece is expected to wrap up in late July and continue on to Serbia.

The sequel to the 2019 film “Knives Out” stars Daniel Craig, Kathryn Hahn, Dave Bautista, Edward Norton and Janelle Monáe. While the plot is unknown, reports speculate that the film will follow in the footsteps of the first film and detective Benoit Blanc (played by Craig) will once again be tasked with solving a mystery with a number of suspects. The first Knives Out grossed more than $311.4 million at the box office.
