Athens’ Stanley Hotel Sets Example, Steps in as Shelter Under Greek Covid-19 Plan
The 4-star The Stanley Hotel Athens will temporarily be converted into a quarantine center for incoming travelers to Greece who will be required to stay there for a period of 14 days as part of precautionary measures under a national coronavirus (Covid-19) scheme.
The government requisitioned the hotel located in the central Metaxourgeio neighborhood to use it as an emergency space as part of its national action plan to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
“The hotel facility is being made available to the public for the purpose of meeting public health needs, in particular the temporary housing and the accompanying food and sanitation needs of natural persons entering Greek territory from Covid-19 high risk countries as part of efforts to contain the spread of the virus,” the decision published on Wednesday in the Government Gazette reads.
The government will cover the costs of accommodation, cleaning, and sanitation.
The Stanley Hotel has been serving as a quarantine center since March offering its rooms for self-isolation purposes.
“The historic hotel, The Stanley, management and our heroes, our employees, felt it was our obligation to respond to the tourism ministry’s call to participate in the well-organized plan for the safe return of Greek nationals,” The Stanley management told GTP Headlines.
“In these difficult times for our country and the world – following the guidelines set out by the Citizens Protection Ministry and the National Public Health Organization (EODY) – we are hosting and serving at our hotel our people, the Greeks living abroad. We will be by their side for as long as their self-isolation requires and hope that they will quickly be able to return to their families and loved ones.”
