Crete Town Chania Imposes Tighter Covid-19 Measures

The popular town of Chania on the island of Crete has – starting today – imposed tighter restrictions in efforts to restrict the further spread of Covid-19, Greek authorities decided.
More specifically, there is now a cap of nine people at public or private events and gatherings, masks are mandatory at all times in public spaces indoors and outside (on the road) with the exception of children under three, and only four people (six if family members) are allowed to dine per table at restaurants. Cafes, restaurants, clubs and bars must remain closed from midnight until 7am. There is a complete ban on open-air markets, festivals, concerts, parties, and fairs. And public transport and taxi drivers are required to wear a mask at all times.
Violators – business owners and participants – will be fined with 150 euros each.
The new series of measures will be in effect through to at least 6am on Tuesday 1 September.

On Monday, Greece’s National Public Health Organization (EODY) reported 170 new coronavirus infections – 36 in travelers – bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 8,819. No deaths were reported on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Greek police (ELAS) said it had conducted 61,897 inspections on Sunday, and had found a total of 8,236 violations so far in August.
Main violations had to do with businesses not following curfew, crowding and not maintaining social distancing, failure to complete the mandatory Passenger Locator Form (PLF), and not wearing a mask.
