Electric Bus Test Run Taking Place in Athens Center

A new public electric bus on Wednesday began its first test run through the center of Athens and is open to passengers.

The electric bus was offered by Chinese automobile manufacturer YUTONG to OSY, a subsidiary company of the Athens Public Transport Organization (OASA), following an open call by the Transport Ministry for the trial run of electric buses.

The eco-friendly vehicle will be transferring passengers between the OSY depot in Rouf and the Rex theater near Omonia square, making 10 intermediate stops, for the next two months.

The 12-meter bus has three double doors, a low floor not requiring entrance stairs and a ramp for people with mobility problems.

The vehicle can carry 27 seated passengers, 46 standing and one person with a disability.

It features a 350kw engine, a hill start assist (HSA) system, front cameras to avoid collisions and a lane change assist system.

Its battery has a capacity of 350 kWh.

The electric bus also features USB charging ports for passengers and is equipped with the YUTONG V+ telematics system.

OSY (Road Transport SA) had tested the first electric bus in Athens, manufactured by China’s BYD, earlier in September.

Commuters in Athens are expected to be introduced to a third electric bus, of a European company, in the near future.
