Four Attica Municipalities ‘Adopt’ Fire-stricken Areas in Evia

The Greek municipalities of Vironas, Kesariani, Agios Dimitrios and Ilioupoli in Attica are taking action to contribute to the reconstruction of four areas on the fire-stricken island of Evia.

During a meeting that took place in the Municipality of Mandoudi-Limni -Agia Anna last week, the mayors of the four municipalities of Attica announced their intention to offer administrative knowhow and assistance to the fire-hit communities of Evia.

More specifically, Vironas will “adopt” Evia’s Pappades Municipality; Agios Dimitrios will support the fire victims of Kerasia; Ilioupoli will contribute to the reconstruction of Achladi; and Kaisariani will take action in the area of Kotsikia.

“The aim is to develop a ‘twin city’ relationship and solidarity among residents,” the Vironas Municipality said in an announcement.

Meanwhile, the Region of Central Greece has said that it will release 40 million euros for the reconstruction of Northern Evia with initial funds going into anti-flooding works and restoring infrastructure.

In addition, funding allocated for the tourism promotion of Evia in 2022 will reach 2 million euros.
