General Strike in Greece on Thursday to Affect Transport
A 24-hour strike called by Greece’s main public sector umbrella union ADEDY for Thursday, November 26, will affect public transport in Athens and ferry travel.
ADEDY is protesting a draft law of the Labor Ministry that includes regulations on working hours, overtime, industrial action and trade unionism.
Rail Transport Company STASY is participating in the strike, which means the Athens metro, ISAP railway and tram will not be running for 24 hours.
Ferry travel is also expected to be disrupted on Thursday as PEMEN, which represents marine engineers, decided to join the strike.
Air travel
Air travel in Greece will also face disruption on Thursday as air traffic control personnel and electronic security engineers are participating in the 24-hour strike called for that day. The unions have also announced work stoppages on Wednesday, November 25.
More specifically, on Wednesday, a work stoppage will take place from 6am until 12 noon by the Greek Air Traffic Controllers Association (EEEKE) and from 12 noon to 6pm by the Union of Electronic Engineers for Air Traffic Safety (ENIMAEK).
Moreover, on Friday, November 27, the PanHellenic Union of Licensed Aeronautical Telecommunication Officers will hold a 4-hour work suspension from 10am until 2pm.
Those planning to travel by ferry or plane in the next few days are advised to contact their travel agents for details.
