The official start of the summer tourist season in Greece will be April 1, according to Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias.
Speaking during the annual general assembly of the Rhodes Hoteliers Association on Friday, the Greek minister informed that the contacts he made at the recent IFTM Top Resa international tourism fair in Paris, as well as the data of tour operators on bookings to Greece, are very encouraging for 2022.
Underlining that that the government’s strategy is to extend the tourist season, aim for quality in tourism and high hotel occupancy numbers, Minister Kikilias highlighted that the country must be ready to welcome visitors for the new season by the end of March.
“In any case we are starting on April 1,” he said.
Moreover, the minister thanked the hoteliers of Rhodes and the association’s president Manolis Markopoulos for supporting the island and Greek tourism in general during this year’s season by operating quarantine hotels and for increasing the salaries of the employees during these last two years.
Kikilias informed that he intends to visit Rhodes soon and hold talks with tourism professionals and employees in view of the new tourist season.
“Your experience, ideas, suggestions and needs will decisively help the Tourism Ministry and will be included in our next campaign,” he said.
The minister recently announced that two campaigns will launch to promote Greece as a winter and spring destination. The first campaign is scheduled to run in November, December and January showcasing winter options and the second, early in spring when many package holidays are finalized.
