Greece Announces New Marina in Halkidiki

A new marina to go up in the area of Sithonia in Halkidiki has received the green light following a joint ministerial decision, the Greek Tourism Ministry announced recently.

Signed by the ministers of Tourism, Harry Theoharis; Environment, Kostis Hatzidakis; and Culture, Lina Mendoni, the decision determines the location and environmental conditions of the project.

The new marina, to be constructed in Agios Ioannis in Sithonia, will cover a land area of 3,660 sq.m.and 18,410 sq.m. of sea. It will have a berthing capacity of 44 tourist boats of an estimated length of eight to 25 meters.

The project also foresees the construction of a 64-meter long floating breakwater that will protect the vessels and increase mooring spots.

According to the tourism ministry, the aim of the project is to upgrade the destination’s tourism product by attracting high-income travelers.

“This is a significant project expected to boost tourist traffic in the area of ​​Halkidiki, a destination that attracts thousands of visitors every year from the Balkan countries and Russia, as well as domestic travelers,” the ministry said in its announcement.

The new marina will also include administration offices and accommodation facilities for its users in a total area of ​​192sq.m.

It will offer lighting, drinking water and electricity supplies, fire protection systems and waste collection tanks.
