Greek Accommodation, F&B Services See August Revenue Tumble
Accommodation and food & beverage (F&B) businesses in Greece saw revenues plummet in August as a result of Covid-19 disruption, according to the latest data released on Tuesday by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
More specifically, turnover in August 2020 for accommodation enterprises (with double-entry bookkeeping) came to 540,422,134 euros, down by 58.5 percent from 1,301,839,600 euros in August 2019.
The largest decrease in August 2020 turnover was recorded on the island of Samos, down by 81.3 percent, with the smallest decline marked in Messinia.
At the same time, F&B services providers saw their turnover in August drop by 33.6 percent to 124,306,749 euros from 187,304,387 euros in the same month in 2019.
The largest decline was marked on Mykonos, down by 68.9 percent, and the smallest in Evia (1.8 percent).
Meanwhile, Fthiotida in Central Greece recorded the largest increase by 25.3 percent.
Overall, in the second quarter of 2020, the country’s accommodation services providers recorded a 94.3 percent decline in revenues to 104,682,448 euros against 1,846,435,467 euros in the same period in 2019.
Crete’s Lassithi region marked the largest Q2 decline by 99.5 percent against the same quarter last year, while Florina recorded the smallest decrease by 11.7 percent, ELSTAT said.
F&B services providers saw Q2 turnover decrease by 59.0 percent to 592,729,473 euros against 1,446,782,662 euros in Q2 2019 with Santorini marking the largest decrease by 95.6 percent and Grevena the smallest decline by 33.3 percent.
