Greek Hoteliers to Take Action for Social Welfare

Hellenic Chamber of Hotel President Alexandros Vasilikos.

The Ministry of Labor and the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (HCH) have announced new joint initiatives for social welfare, aiming to support children and vulnerable groups in Greece.

During a recent meeting, HCH President Alexandros Vasilikos and Deputy Labor Minister Domna Michailidou discussed on the next steps of the ongoing cooperation between the two organizations.

These steps include three actions:

– The employment – in hotel units – of individuals over 16 years old that live in adult care facilities

– The employment of people with disabilities in the hospitality sector. The labor costs will be covered through subsidy programs of Greece’s Manpower Employment Organization (OAED)

– Covering the needs of vulnerable groups as well as social care facilities.

“Solidarity and social contribution are key priorities of Greek hoteliers. This is also confirmed through our collaboration with the Labor Ministry with actions that will directly benefit vulnerable groups of people,” Alexandros Vasilikos said.

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels has supported Greece’s National Healthcare System – ESY with 1 million euros.

Furthermore, it has provided shelter to abused women and established the “Hotels For” organization to support people in need and promote the UN sustainable development goals.

On her part, Deputy Labor Minister Domna Michailidou said the ministry’s collaboration with the Greek hotel chamber is based on their common vision towards enhancing social cohesion.
