Greek Regional Airports Prepare to Open to International Flights
Greek Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias is scheduled to visit 18 regional airports in Greece to coordinate their opening to international flights as of July 1. The airports have been closed to international flights since late March due to Covid-19 restrictions.
According to an announcement by the Greek Civil Protection Ministry, Hardalias will coordinate all the procedures for the safe start of the airports’ operation in cooperation with local authorities at each destination.
The deputy minister’s schedule begins on Friday at 8:30am from Zakynthos and ends at 3:45pm on Monday on Skyros.

In detail, Hardalias will visit, on Friday, June 26, the airports of Zakynthos (08:30), Kefalonia (10:15), Corfu (12:15), Ioannina (15:00), Kalamata (18:00); on Saturday, June 27, the airports of Kythira (10:00), Chania (12:00), Heraklion (16:30); on Sunday, June 28, the airports of Karpathos (08:00), Rhodes (09:45), Kos (13:00), Samos (15:15), Chios (17:30), Mytilene (19:15); and on Monday, June 29, the airports of Lemnos (08:00), Kavala (10:00), Skiathos (12:00), Skyros (15:45).

Hardalias is scheduled to hold meetings with representatives from the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, airport management bodies and the Greek police to ensure the smooth implementation of safety measures and health protocols at all airports. He will also meet with the local authorities of each region.
The secretary general of Civil Protection, Vassilis Papageorgiou, on Sunday and Monday will coordinate the opening of the airports of Araxos, Aktio, Anchialos, Mykonos, Paros and Santorini, that will also open to foreign flights next month.
As of July 1, COVID-19 sample tests for passengers arriving abroad will be carried out at Greece’s regional airports under the supervision of the Greek Civil Protection Ministry. EODY will be responsible for checking arrivals in the ports of Patras and Igoumenitsa.
