Hotel of the Month: Travelife Honors Neptune Resorts for its Sustainable Gastronomy Practices

Neptune Hotels Resort, Convention Centre & Spa, Kos

The Neptune Hotels Resort, Convention Centre & Spa, located on the Greek island of Kos, has been announced “Hotel of the Month” for its sustainable gastronomy practices by Travelife, the international sustainability organization specializing in tourism.

According to an announcement, the resort was recognized for its efforts to minimize the environmental consequences of its gastronomy activities. Neptune Hotels supports the local economy by increasing the consumption of local products as well as by informing its guests about the local legacy and sustainable gastronomy.

Since 2018, Neptune Hotels has been steadily increasing its supplies of food from Kos and the rest of Greece.

It has also increased the consumption of food certified by international labels such as the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) for sustainable fishery products, the Rainforest Alliance, the label for protected designation of origin products and biological products.

In 2019, the resort increased its food & beverage (F&B) supplies from local sources from 13 percent to 36 percent per overnight stay compared to previous years. It also reduced imported F&B from 52 percent to 34 percent.

The consumption of meat was also reduced by 9,1 percent/overnight stay, while the consumption of fresh vegetables and fruit increased by 10.7 percent and 21 percent respectively.

“The pandemic from which we are gradually recovering, proves that the tourism industry is highly dependent on a healthy global ecosystem, while it is vulnerable to environmental disasters,” the resort’s management said.

“Neptune Hotels is working to become an environmental leader in the tourism industry. Sustainability is the right way towards a more resilient hospitality sector and can ensure the health of our planet’s societies.”

Built in an area of 150,000sq.m. near Mastichari, the five-start Neptune Hotels offers luxury comfortable rooms, suites and apartments.

Its premises also include swimming pools, restaurants and bars, fitness and wellness facilities.
