The tender for the selection of a preferred consortium of consultants for the development of Kalamata Airport in Greece has been completed, the Hellenic Corporation of Assets and Participations (HCAP) announced on Wednesday.
According to Greece’s assets body, the consortium of Deloitte Business Solutions SA, FCNC Financial Advisors Ltd, Doxiadis Office Consultants for Development & Ekistics SA, Your Legal Partners (Maria Golfinopoulou and Katerina Christodoulou), and Dracopoulos & Vassalakis Law Firm was appointed the preferred contractor. HCAP officials said there had been strong interest in the airport with six submitted proposals.
The selected consortium will be required to conduct a study of the airport’s current condition and based on the findings prepare a business plan with specific proposals/solutions for the airport’s development.
It will also assist HCAP in preparing the tender process set for launch in the second quarter of 2022.

Kalamata is the first step in the implementation of the HCAP strategy for the development of 23 Greek regional airports through securing significant investments in infrastructure, equipment and upgrading of the services provided.
The selection of a preferred consortium of consultants for Kalamata Airport paves the way for the development of the other smaller regional airports.
“The development of Kalamata Airport will give a strong impetus to tourism, not only in the region, but also in the central and southern Peloponnese as a whole. It will expand and upgrade Kalamata’s air connectivity with important travel markets abroad, acting as a catalyst for the further development and upgrade of the tourism product, with obvious benefits for society and the economy of the wider region,” said HCAP Portfolio Manager Dimitris Konstantakopoulos.
In 2019, the airport of Kalamata handled 341,000 passengers, 317,000 of whom arrived on international flights. Following the completed deal for Kalamata Airport, the HCAP will be preparing to take similar actions for the utilization of the country’s other regional airports.
Indicatively, a total of 1.8 million passengers went through Greece’s other 22 regional airports on more than 36,000 flights in 2019.
