
More Landmark Fountains ‘Revive’ in Athens
The Athens Municipality has revamped three more landmark fountains in neighborhoods near the city center, as part of its ongoing project that includes the restoration of a total of 34 fountains in the Greek capital.
The municipality recently unveiled the refurbished fountains of Mavili and Madritis squares, a well as the fountain located at the junction of Ymittou and Eftichidou streets in Pagrati.
According to an announcement by the municipality, its specialized crews are carrying out cleaning and restoration works on a daily basis, also repairing the fountains’ sewerage and lighting systems, waterproof surface and marble legs.
More than 20 fountains have already been revamped at the squares of Korai, Trouman, Metaxourgio, Amerikis and Lavriou as well as in Veikou and Dimitrakopoulou streets, Rigilis and Vasilissis Sofias streets and in the areas of Fix, Patision, Acharnon and many more.
Works will soon be completed on 10 more fountains. Among those to undergo a facelift are fountains located at the Athens Cultural Center on Akadimias street, on Korai and Panepistimou streets.
