Strict Covid-19 Measures Imposed on Zakynthos and Chania

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection on Thursday announced extra precautionary measures, which include an overnight curfew and a music ban, for the popular Greek destinations of Zakynthos and Chania, Crete, aimed at curbing the further spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

According to an announcement by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, both destinations have been moved to “red” (level 4) status on Greece’s Covid-19 risk-assessment map due to the recent spike in cases. The epidemiological burden on Zakynthos has increased by 69 percent and rose by 54 percent for Chania, the announcement said.

The new restrictions for Zakynthos and Chania include:

– A five-hour overnight curfew from 1am to 6am (movement is allowed only for work and health reasons).
– A 24-hour music ban (at all beach bars, cafes, restaurants, bars) which will begin on Saturday at 6pm.

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection reminds that private gatherings and events with the presence of more than 20 people are banned. Violators that organize private parties will be hit with fines amounting from 50,000 to 200,000 euros.

The measures will be in force until Friday, August 13, and will be re-evaluated by the Covid10 health committee of experts.

It is reminded that similar restrictions had been imposed on Mykonos for 10 days in mid-July.

Ios and Rhodes turn ‘orange’

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection also noted that the municipalities of Rhodes and Ios have moved to “orange” (level 3) status on the Covid-19 risk-assessment map and will be under increased surveillance.

“We call on the residents, visitors and professionals of these areas to adhere to the health and safety measures, in order to control and curb the spread of the virus,” the General Secretariat of Civil Protection said.
