Greece’s New Campaign for Winter Tourism to Launch in December

The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) in the beginning of December will launch a new campaign to promote Greece’s winter tourism destinations.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the organization’s secretary general, Dimitris Fragakis, during the NextisNow conference in Athens.

The new campaign, which will run for three months, will promote tourism destinations across Greece that are considered ideal to visit during the winter season. The campaign will feature the Greek countryside, mountains, lakes, villages and areas with natural beauty.

“For the first time Greece is launching a campaign dedicated exclusively to winter tourism. It will not be a 12-month campaign,” Fragakis said, adding that the campaign will be launched in close collaboration with the Tourism Ministry “in view of this tough winter that’s coming” due to the Covid-19 pandemic and because people are skeptical about traveling.

Also referring to the upcoming winter tourism campaign during the NextisNow conference, Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias highlighted that the country’s mainland destinations in all regions of the country – with their beautiful mountains, lakes, ski resorts and mountain trails – can be “excellent” holiday spots for visitors.

“We will promote these destinations in a structured and systematic way during the months of December, January and February, when tourism revenues drop… We will connect them to our site so that travelers can get information and we will inform all the major players in the tourism industry,” he said.

Kikilias underlined that whatever the percentage of revenue results from the promotional effort, it will still be an addition to the Greek economy and support to commerce, hotels, municipalities and regions.

“We will measure the campaign’s results and we will establish it,” he said.

Moreover, it was announced that a second tourism campaign focused on promoting Athens and Thessalonik as city break destinations will launch after January 2022 by the GNTO and the ministry.

According to the GNTO, the two Greek cities will be the core of the second campaign while other big cities and towns that can be “instrumental” to Greece’s city break tourism promotion will also be included.
